Another fine day at the farm

It was a gorgeous July 1 day. The heat and humidity abated, the sky was a springtime blue and the green on the tree was mind-numbingly brilliant. At 8:45am, Sara and I headed down to the farm so she could visit her 15 day old foal.
Wikke is starting to exert his independence. He didn’t want his halter and didn’t want to be petted. He constantly used his mom as a buffer between him and his visitors. Regardless, he is one cute little guy and a really nice foal. I cannot wait to see him develop. And importantly, Sara is very happy with him too. More Wikke pictures from today.
My sister and my parents are exercising their horses, Oeke (Weird 409 x Tsjerk 328) and Ock (Mintse 384 x Oege). These two 3 year olds will be heading to their important breed inspection (“keuring”) in late September. In early August they will go to a professional trainer.
In the meantime, my sister and her husband, who own Oeke, are dedicating themselves to her preparation. My parents, who own Ock, are doing the same. Oeke had a saddle on her for the first time today and did very well with it – no bucking. No discomfort. See Oeke’s pictures from today.
Ock is taller than her cousin Oeke. Oeke is much darker in color. They are both nice fillies and we’re looking forward to seeing them progress. Ock is doing some lunge work. She is a well behaved filly but she had a few more objections to the saddle! She’s doing well though. Here is a picture of Dad with Ock and you can see more pictures from today.
