Fighting Mother Nature – and losing

Cori is fine, so no worries there. We did a milk test last night and she registered at 150. So, there was a 98% chance no baby last night (and indeed, no baby last night). Once she hits 200 – which could be today or tomorrow – she should foal within 48 hours. If the milk test works (more on that in a later post).

Mother Nature did hurt us yesterday though. We had a fierce electrical storm at about 3pm and it knocked out everything – phone, internet, my ethernet line, and (sigh) the barn camera. That is our 3rd barn camera in a month and those things are $300 each. I even had it unplugged – I guess the electricity came through the underground wire from camera to house. This was just a terrific bummer. Mom and Dad looked out for Cori last night the old fashioned way – trekking out to the foaling shed every two hours. No fun for them, and no fun for a foaling mare who desperately wants to be left alone at night.

On the bright side, everyone is safe and well, I got to sleep a full night through in my own bed, and we finally got some rain.
